Questions about Ausbildung

What is Ausbildung?

Ausbildung is Germany’s dual vocational training. You work at a company or hospital and study at a vocational school at the same time, usually for 2 to 3.5 years, and you are paid a monthly training salary from the first month.

Do I have to pay fees for Ausbildung?

No. Ausbildung is normally free of tuition fees. Your employer pays you a monthly training allowance (Ausbildungsvergütung).

How much do Ausbildung students earn?

It depends on the profession, the employer and the state. Many trainees earn roughly €1,000–€1,400 gross per month, and nursing trainees in the public sector earn about €1,490 in the first year (2026 rates), rising every year.

Which German level do I need?

Most employers and visa offices expect at least B1. Healthcare and nursing usually require B2. Start early: each level takes about 2 months with our structured courses.

Who can apply for Ausbildung from India?

Usually students who have finished 12th (some professions accept 10th), are motivated to work in a trade, and can show German at B1/B2. Age limits apply only to some visas, such as the visa for searching a training place.

What happens after Ausbildung?

You get a recognised German qualification. You can work in Germany as a skilled worker, and the residence permit can be converted into a work permit; after some years of work you can apply for permanent residence.
